An Arizona teenager, a student and football player, was tragically killed last Saturday in a stabbing that occurred during a confrontation.
The Ahwatukee community is grieving tonight after a local high school student was fatally injured early Saturday morning. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries.
Several people gathered for a vigil held in honor of 15-year-old Jaylen Reeves, while police continue to investigate the stabbing.
Phoenix police reported that Jaylen was stabbed during an altercation between two groups of teenagers. Unfortunately, no arrests have been made yet.
Police were called around 3 a.m. Saturday to the area of East Lakewood Parkway in Ahwatukee after receiving reports of a fight between two groups of teens.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found Jaylen suffering from severe stab wounds. Despite medical intervention, he tragically passed away from his injuries.
Jaylen was reportedly a sophomore at Mountain Pointe High School and a member of the football team.
Friends and community members described him as a sweet and kind teenager who went out of his way to befriend new students at school. He was a talented athlete with a promising future.
