Stevie Nicks

Stevie Nicks has just released a new single titled The Lighthouse, marking her first original music in four years. The track, released on September 27, 2024, carries the mystical, ethereal vibe that Nicks is renowned for. It was teased through a moody, atmospheric video featuring her silhouette inside a lighthouse as birds fly ominously around her. The song features the powerful line, “I wanna teach you to fight,” which reflects a theme of empowerment.

The Lighthouse Lyrics

I have my scars, you have yours
Don’t let them take your power
Don’t leave it alone in the final hours
They’ll take your soul, they’ll take your power
Don’t close your eyes and hope for the best
The dark is out there, the light is going fast
Until the final hours, your life’s forever changed
And all the rights that you had yesterday

Are taken away
And now you’re afraid
You should be afraid
Should be afraid

Because everything I fought for
Long ago in a dream is gone
Someone said the dream is not over
The dream has just begun, or
Is it a nightmare? Is it a lasting scar?
It is unless you save it and that’s that
Unless you stand up and take it back
And take it back

I have my scars, you have yours
Don’t let them take your power
Don’t leave it alone in the final hours
They’ll take your soul, they’ll take your power
Unless you stand up and take it back
Try to see the future and get mad
It’s slipping through your fingers, you don’t have what you had
You don’t have much time to get it back

I wanna be the lighthouse
Bring all of you together
Bring it out in a song
Bring it out in stormy weather
Tell them the story

I wanna teach ’em to fight
I wanna tell ’em this has happened before
Don’t let it happen again

I have my scars, you have yours
Don’t let them take your power
Don’t leave it alone in the final hours
They’ll take your soul, they’ll take your power
Unless you save it and that’s that
Unless you stand up and take it back
Try to see the future and get mad
It’s slipping through your fingers, you don’t have what you had
You don’t have much time

You gotta get in the game
You gotta learn how to play
You gotta make a change
You gotta do it today

In the midnight hour, they’ll slam the door
Make you forget what you were fighting for
Put you back in your place, they’ll shut you down
You better learn how to fight, you better say it out loud

Artist Biography

Stevie Nicks, born on May 26, 1948, in Phoenix, Arizona, is an iconic American singer, songwriter, and member of the legendary band Fleetwood Mac. Known for her distinctive voice, mystical persona, and poetic lyrics, Nicks rose to prominence in the 1970s.

She joined Fleetwood Mac in 1975 alongside guitarist Lindsey Buckingham, contributing to the band’s massive success. Their 1977 album Rumours became one of the best-selling albums of all time, featuring hits like “Dreams,” written by Nicks. Her solo career took off in 1981 with the release of Bella Donna, which included the chart-topping single “Edge of Seventeen.”

Over her career, Nicks has been known for her ethereal stage presence, deeply personal songwriting, and numerous collaborations with artists like Tom Petty and Don Henley. She is the first woman to be inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame—once with Fleetwood Mac in 1998, and again as a solo artist in 2019

The Lighthouse draws from a poem Nicks shared in 2022, Get It Back, which she had written during that year’s U.S. midterm elections. The poem spoke about being a guiding force, metaphorically represented as a lighthouse, bringing people together and weathering storms. This idea of resilience is central to the song’s message. Fans are eager to see if the release will lead to a larger project, as it’s her first original work since 2020’s Show Them the Way.

Stevie Nicks is set to perform the new track during her appearance on Saturday Night Live in October 2024, building even more excitement for what may follow. Given Nicks’ legendary status as both a solo artist and a member of Fleetwood Mac, her return to original music is generating significant buzz among fans of classic rock and new listeners alike.
