Former Teacher Sentenced to 30 Years for Sexually Assaulting Minor, Will Serve Only 12 Months

A former middle school teacher was sentenced after she sexually abused a 14-year-old boy.

32-year-old Melissa Marie Curtis is from Upper Marlboro in Prince George’s County. She used to teach middle school and repeatedly sexually assaulted a 14-year-old boy.

Melissa reportedly pleaded guilty to three counts of third-degree sex offenses on June 20.

She was sentenced to 30 years in prison on Friday, November 15th.

A Montgomery County judge is allowing Melissa to serve only one year behind bars, then she’ll be on five years of supervised probation.

After one year in jail, when she’ll be released, she’ll be required to register as a sex offender for 25 years and will not be allowed to have unsupervised contact with any minors except for her own children. Yes, she had her own kids.

The investigation on Melissa began last year in October 2023, when the victim, who is now an adult, came forward to police to tell them about the abuse he endured when he was 14.

He reportedly said that the abuse began in 2015, when Melissa was 22 and the victim was an eighth-grader at Montgomery Village Middle School where she was a teacher.

He said that Melissa sexually assaulted him in the classroom, in her car, at his house, at Melissa’s mother’s house, and they reportedly had sex more than 20 times between January 2015 and May 2015. She used to give him marijuana and alcohol.

On October 31st of 2023, a warrant was issued for her arrest, and she ended up turning herself in to the authorities on November 7th just a week later.

She had reportedly been a teacher for around two years at Montgomery Village Middle School and before that taught at Lakelands Park Middle School.

She left Montgomery Village Middle School in 2017.
